WASTE MANAGEMENT POLICY

1. Purpose

The purpose of this Waste Management Policy is to establish guidelines and procedures for the effective management of waste at Sree Narayana College of Education (SNCE). This policy aims to minimize waste generation, promote recycling and reuse, and ensure the proper disposal of waste to safeguard environmental health and support sustainability.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all students, staff, faculty, and visitors at SNCE. It encompasses the management of all types of waste generated on campus, including solid waste, liquid waste, and electronic waste.

3. Objectives

• Reduce Waste Generation: Implement practices to minimize the amount of waste produced.
• Promote Recycling and Reuse: Encourage the segregation of recyclable materials and promote the reuse of resources.
• Ensure Proper Disposal: Ensure that waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
• Educate and Involve: Raise awareness about waste management and involve the campus community in waste reduction efforts.

4. Waste Management Procedures

1. Waste Segregation:
   • Color-Coded Bins: Place color-coded bins around the campus: green for biodegradable waste, blue for recyclable materials (e.g., paper, plastics, glass), and black for non-recyclable waste.
   • Clear Labels: Ensure bins are clearly labeled to assist in proper segregation.
   • Training: Conduct regular training sessions for students and staff on proper waste segregation techniques.
2. Solid Waste Management:
   • Biodegradable Waste: Collect and compost biodegradable waste from cafeterias and gardens. Compost will be used to enrich campus gardens.
   • Recyclable Waste: Regularly collect and transport recyclable materials to authorized recycling centers.
   • Non-Recyclable Waste: Dispose of non-recyclable waste through approved waste management services.
3. Liquid Waste Management:
